COLON CANCER: 5 Things You Need To Know!!

 Colon cancer is sometimes called colorectal cancer, which is a term that combines colon cancer and rectal cancer, which begins in the rectum.

The exact cause of colorectal cancer  is not known, but certain risk factors are strongly linked to the disease, including diet, tobacco smoking and heavy alcohol use. Also, people with certain hereditary cancer syndromes or a family history of colorectal cancer have a high risk of developing the disease. These are 5 things you need to know about the disease;

  1. Colorectal cancer forms when the DNA in cells in the colon or rectum develop mutations that may make them unable to control growth and division. In many cases, these mutated cells die or are attacked by the immune system. But some mutated cells may escape the immune system and grow out of control, forming a tumor in the colon or rectum.
  2. Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include; A persistent change in your bowel habits including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool, Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool, Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain, A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely, weakness or fatigue, Unexplained weight loss. However, Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When symptoms appear, they'll likely vary, depending on the cancer's size and location in your large intestine.
  3. The African-American race have a greater risk of colon cancer than do people of other races.
  4. You're more likely to develop colon cancer if you have a blood relative who has had the disease. If more than one family member has colon cancer or rectal cancer, your risk is even greater.
  5. If colon cancer develops, many treatments are available to help control it, including surgery, radiation therapy and drug treatments, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
