BREAKING: UNIVERSITIES SET TO RESUME

 


The National Co-ordinator, Congress of University Academics (CONUA), Dr ‘Niyi Sunmonu, on Saturday said its members were ready to resume work.

Sunmonu said this in a statement he issued after its National Executive Council meeting and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.

He urged the Federal Government to reopen universities and put in place infrastructure and COVID-19 protocols that would facilitate resumption in the institutions.

”CONUA members are ready to resume work.”Everything necessary in terms of COVID-19 protocols must be put in place before reopening the universities in order to prevent students and staff from contracting the disease.


”The education sector cannot continue to stagnate. As it appears, COVID-19 would continue to be a threat and we must, in the circumstance, learn to strive to lead our normal life


”The Union urges the government to make available everything that can help our universities to resume work as it is being done elsewhere in the world,” he said.

  26 soldiers were charged with criminal offenses, but only Lieutenant William Calley Jr., a platoon leader in C Company, was convicted on this day in 1969. In March 16th 1968, a war crime which is known recently as "the most shocking episode of the Vietnam War" and "one of the largest publicized massacres of civilians by U.S. forces in the 20th century", took place in two hamlets of Sơn Mỹ village in Quảng Ngãi Province. Perpetrators included the U.S. Army soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment and Company B, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 11th Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division. The incident prompted global outrage when it became public knowledge in November 1969 as an estimated 347-504 lives were lost, including the lives of women children and infants. FG Announces Resumption Date for Universities,Poly Secondary and Primary Schools

The Federal Government on Thursday said September 21, 2020, has been set for the reopening of Tertiary Institutions, Primary and Secondary schools in the country. The federal government disclosed this in a statement by the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu at the end of this week’s federal Executive Council meeting. Adamu Adamu also said stakeholders were expected to continue to put protocols in place towards the reopening of schools according to the guidelines set by the Federal Ministry of Education. According to him, all schools in the country are set to resume in phases with effect from Monday, 21 September for a completion of first semester examinations for tertiary institutions and abridged third term of the 2019/2020 academic session for Primary and Secondary Schools.
